OUR FAMILY UPDATES
ROSE BRYERS (22.9)
ADVENTURER
December 2020 - graduated with a Degree in Recreation and a minor in Anthropology from Western Washington University (Bellingham, Washington).
Rose is electing a life of adventure before deciding her next course of study. She worked part-time as a Lifeguard in Bellingham Parks and for InPlace before spending Winter working tables at Alta Ski Resort in Utah, and living on site.
With friends, she then took a few weeks to roadtrip through Salt Lake City to San Francisco, hitting national parks, rock climbing, and Las Vegas on the way!
Rose is looking forward to warm weather and reconnecting with her family in Australia, as well as continuing her adventures. Her future interests at the moment are in permaculture, sustainable living, and education.
RUTH BRYERS (19.9)
RETAILER / LIFE EXPLORER
November 2020 - after completing her GED, Ruth secured her Esthetician certification and license from the Euro Institute of Skin Care.
After 6 months as a Technician at Amazing Lash Studios, Ruth decided corporate life was not for her. She was drawn to the culture and caring at Sock Monster - a much-loved Seattle retailer - where she has been since late November 2021.
Ruth and her Seattle-based boyfriend, Chayo, celebrated 3 years together in 2021. She is planning to come to Australia for a month or so with the family, then return to Seattle.
Ruth continues to explore the mystical and energetic elements that effect people and herself. She is a strong social justice advocate, especially for the marginalized.
DOUG BRYERS
STARTUP GUY
September 2020 - Doug threw his full-time support behind NLX, a Conversational AI startup.
He has been heads-down since then helping grow them from 4 to 27 people, raising $5M capital, advancing the product, and securing global brand customers and partners. In 2022 they expect to complete a Series A capital raise and scale up to 50 people or so.
In March, Doug started advising a Hawaii-based non-profit responsible for 1,300 acres located on the Big Island. He is helping them realize their dream of preserving and protecting native forest and Hawaiian culture.
Doug will continue as NLX Chief Operating Officer in 2022. He is using the Australia move to explore a transition from software and technology startup’s into building a global network of native forests. He is very excited to be getting back to the beach!
DENISE BEVACQUA
SUPER ORGANIZER
Summer 2021 - Denise transitioned away from working 1:1 with people in their homes (as a Personal Organizer). She is now working remotely, part-time for NLX.
Denise is able to work without being in a lot of meetings, allowing her to work from anywhere and most any time. Meaning, she can seek out her “happy place” - which most definitely happened while in Hawaii in Jan-Feb. Our stay at Hapuna Beach Resort was a special time.
Denise is super sad to be leaving her family in the US and her village in Seattle. But she is greatly looking forward to being near the beach and in a sunnier place. Seattle winters have been soul-crushing!
In Australia, Denise plans to continue working part-time for NLX, doing onboarding and administrative tasks. She has also been flat out organizing, sorting, and packing up the house for our big move.

We are relocating to Queensland, Australia, starting on the Sunshine Coast which is about 90 minutes north of Brisbane (where Doug & Denise met at World Expo 1988).
Renting
We are renting our Seattle home for at least 2 years - using a professional property manager. We’ll review after that time.
Our current thinking is to rent for 1-2 years in Australia also. We want to look around and get to know the areas on the Sunshine Coast a little better.
We are liking the idea of being untethered and traveling light. We have an itch to do more travel - in both Australia and South-East Asia. A Caravan / RV and 4WD Truck is being considered for exploring Australia.
Shipping
We thought we were going to ship a lot of our Seattle home to Australia but out-of-control shipping costs made us re-think.
Instead, we are traveling light. We have sold or given away a lot of our material possessions, deciding to ship only those precious mementos and items that we need to set up a new home after we arrive and find longer term accommodation.
Packers arrive at our house on Monday, May 9. They will load up our (carefully selected) stuff for shipping. We won’t see that again for many weeks (and maybe even months).
Excess Baggage & Storage
Key items we need upon arrival in Australia are being loaded as excess baggage (3 bags each), to take on our flight. Lastly, Ruth has a small household of stuff she is keeping in Seattle storage until she returns to set up her own place.
